Located at 1143 Franklin Street, where Franklin and Main come together in a triangle, sits the former location of Mobley’s Custom Meat Processing. That triangle makes the shape of this build very unique.
Built in 1952, this location has seen a few different businesses through the years. Prior to being the go to spot for custom processing such as deer and hog, the location served as a grocery store. Mobley’s Food Market, opened in 1952, served the surrounding neighborhoods until the early 1970’s. That is when Mr. Mobley decided to move is growing meat processing business to the 1136 location.

“Dad wanted to move to a nicer place,” said Pamela Mobley Frederick, daughter of Charles Mobley. “I worked there for a little bit. Several kids would. You know, when they needed the money!”
As part of the move to expand the meat processing business, Mr. Mobley closed the grocery store and built on to the existing building. He added an office, a meat processing room with a large walk-in freezer, a place for processing pork, and a kill floor.
We happened to meet a neighbor of this building while we were taking pictures. She was sitting on an old picnic table in the shade. Well aware of what was going on there, she told us that the meat processing was never loud or disturbing in any way.
Part of what made Mobley’s unique was the cracklin they would make.
“Oh, it was the best you ever ate,” reminisced Frederick. “I would get in trouble all the time. I’d stand next to the big fryer they had and eat them fresh. They would always tell me I would get sick from eating so much. I never did!”

At one point, the front of the building served as a shoe repair and parlor.

The building and the land was recently purchased and plans are to keep the building up and open something new. We love to hear that at Abandoned Clarksville. When something old, gets new life.
